π Big Picture Pathways
In Georgia, there are flexible, affordable college pathways that allow students to earn a degree without overwhelming debt. Whether your student begins at a two-year college, goes directly to a university, or attends a technical college, the key is to plan early and understand their options.
π« Explore Georgiaβs State Colleges & Universities
Georgia offers a wide variety of higher education opportunities through the University System of Georgia (USG), which includes 26 public colleges and universities across the state. Many students choose to start at a state college and transfer to a larger university later β a strategy that can significantly reduce costs.
π Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG)
The Technical College System of Georgia includes 22 colleges offering certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees in high-demand career fields β many of which lead directly to jobs or transfer to four-year institutions. Many programs are eligible for free tuition through HOPE Career Grants.
π Dual Enrollment in Georgia
Georgiaβs Dual Enrollment program allows high school students (grades 10β12) to take college-level courses for free at eligible public or private institutions. These credits can count toward both high school and college graduation requirements, helping students save time and money.
π Georgia Match Program
Georgia Match is a new statewide initiative that notifies high school seniors about the public colleges and universities where they are already eligible for admission based on their academic record. This proactive approach helps reduce uncertainty and empowers students to take action on college applications.
πΈ Affordable College Options & HOPE/Zell Scholarships
Georgiaβs HOPE Scholarship and Zell Miller Scholarship help cover the cost of tuition at eligible public and private colleges in Georgia. These merit-based programs are based on high school GPA and standardized test scores. Combined with Dual Enrollment and careful planning, these scholarships can make college in Georgia highly affordable.
π Credit Transfer & Reverse Transfer
Students who begin at a technical college in Georgia can often transfer credits toward a bachelor’s degree at a University System school. Georgia also offers a reverse transfer option, where students who move on to a four-year college may still earn an associate degree retroactively once enough credits are completed.
